Description / Synopsis
Born in Montreal in 1952, Suezan Aikins studied fine arts at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, the Ontario College of Art, L'École du Musee des Beaux Arts, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NASCAD) where she earned a BFA. Ten years after completing her undergraduate degree, Aikins and her husband, Sam Rogers, moved to Japan to learn printmaking with renowned artist Toshi Yoshida. Aikins and Rogers currently reside in Nova Scotia where they continue to work in collaboration: Aikins as designer and Rogers as printer of woodblock prints. Aikins is an elected member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art, and her work is featured globally in collections including the Canada Council Art Bank, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and Canadian Embassy in Tokyo. In addition to printmaking, Aikins creates watercolour and gold leaf/mixed media paintings, and relief installations, as well as publishes haiku, tanka, and renga poetry.
