Description / Synopsis
Ian Thomas’s career has been as an artist and a teacher. He received his initial training at Birmingham College of Arts and Crafts, going on to receive an MA in Art Education at the University of British Columbia. Thomas taught at a variety of secondary and post-secondary institutions, and taught in the Camosun College Visual Arts Department from 1976 to 1991. Thomas’s earlier works were produced using a variety of media including print, painting, drawing and installations which incorporated space, light, sound, and objects. His later work consists primarily of drawings and paintings which explore the violence and frailty of the human condition through a reflection of sense of both loss and hope. |
