Yves Vial was born in Lyons, France in 1954, and has been a Canadian citizen since 1980. Vial received his art training in both France and Canada, studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Marseille, University of Marseille, l Ácademie de Dessin de Bendor, the University of Victoria, and Emily Carr College of Art (now Emily Carr University). Vial has been an active artist in BC since 1976. He has been an artist in residence at the Greater Victoria Art Gallery, taught painting classes for adults and children, was an instructor at the BC School of Art Therapy, and is a Natural Therapist at the Sound Healing Institute of Canada. Vial was a lecturer for the Alliance Française, and collaborated with Canadian poet Robin Skelton creating a limited edition artbook of lithographs. In addition to being help in private and public collections, Vial’s work has been exhibited in Marseille and Nice, France, New York, and in numerous galleries in Vancouver and Victoria.
