Born in Selsdon, Surrey, England, Robin Hopper began his art education at the Croydon College of Art, first studying printmaking until he commenced studies in ceramics in 1956. In 1968 Hopper immigrated to Canada working as a teacher and heading ceramics programmes at the Central Technical School, and Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario until 1973 when he resigned from teaching to focus on studio work. Hopper moved to Vancouver Island in 1977 setting up his studio, "Chosin Pottery" in Metchosin, BC. In addition to his studio work, Hopper has taught at the Lester B. Pearson College, and has been instrumental in the founding of the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts. He is the author of many articles and books including "The Ceramic Spectrum", "A Potter's Garden", and "Making Marks". Hopper is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
